About Brached.

What we are. Why we exist. The problem we were built to solve — and the reason no one else is solving it the way we do.

Definition

An identity
intelligence layer
for regulated finance.

Brached is a real-time compliance infrastructure that continuously screens people, businesses, and the money that moves between them — across AML, KYC, and KYB pipelines.

It runs underneath the products you build: silently verifying identity, watching for sanctions and PEP matches, and surfacing the patterns that distinguish a real customer from a fabricated one.

§ 01.2WHY IT EXISTS · THE PROBLEM
05 / 36
Why we exist

Compliance was built for paper. Fraud isn't.

The institutions guarding the global financial system inherited a process from a slower era — quarterly reviews, manual file-pulls, document scans verified by humans. Bad actors moved online a decade ago. The defense didn't.

The industry problem · four failures
  1. Identity is verified once, then forgotten.
Most KYC happens at onboarding. After that, customers can change behavior, addresses, ownership — and nothing watches.
  2. Signals live in silos.
Sanctions lists, ownership graphs, transaction monitoring, and device telemetry rarely speak the same language. Fraud hides in the gaps.
  3. False positives bury the real ones.
Legacy screening tools surface so much noise that analysts dismiss alerts by reflex. The signal that matters slips through.
  4. Audit trails are reconstructed, not recorded.
When regulators ask "how did you know?" — most teams build the answer after the fact. Brached makes the answer the byproduct of doing the work.
BRACHED · § 01 BRAND NARRATIVE WHY IT EXISTS
§ 01.3WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
06 / 36
Four operating principles

We don't sell compliance checks. We sell the pattern behind them.

P / 01 CONTINUOUS
Always watching, never paused.

Identity verification doesn't end at onboarding. Every account is re-screened against live sanctions, PEP, and risk signals on a continuous basis.

P / 02 UNIFIED
One pattern, every signal.

AML, KYC, KYB, device, and behavioral signals collapse into a single identity graph. Fraud hides in the seams — Brached has none.

P / 03 EXPLAINABLE
Every alert shows its work.

No black-box scores. Every match, every flag links to its source list, its match logic, and its evidence — audit-ready by default.

P / 04 DEVELOPER-NATIVE
Built to disappear into your stack.

A first-class API, webhook-driven workflows, and a dashboard that compliance teams actually want to use. No procurement theater.

SECTION 02THE MEANING OF BRACH
07 / 36
02
Section 02 / 09

The word brach.

An old English word for a hound trained to track by scent. Why a fourteenth-century word for a hunting dog became the name of a piece of financial infrastructure.

08 — Etymology 09 — Tracking & trails 10 — Precision & pursuit
BRACHED · Brand Book § 02 MEANING OF BRACH
§ 02.1ETYMOLOGY

Dictionary entry

brach

/braCH/
noun · archaic · c. 1340
1 · primary

A female hound used in pairs to track quarry by scent.

2 · figurative

One who follows an unbroken trail through circumstance most would lose.

§ 02.2TRACKING · INVISIBLE TRAILS
09 / 36
Then

The dog follows what no one can see.

A brach worked the trail by scent — connecting moments and places its handler could not perceive. Where a person saw nothing, the hound saw a continuous line.

The hunter trusted the brach not because the trail was visible, but because the dog was the kind of instrument that did not lose it.

Scent Pursuit Patience Instinct Loyalty
Now

The system reads the trail no one writes down.

Modern identity leaves a trail of its own — device fingerprints, ownership graphs, transaction cadence, address histories. No single signal is decisive. Together, they're a scent.

Brached is the brach: the instrument trained to follow what your compliance team can't see, never lose it, and bring back the evidence of where it led.

Device Graph Behavior Sanctions Source
NOTE

"The fingerprint in our mark is not a flourish — it is the modern scent. Unique, irrefutable, permanent. The thing every identity leaves, even when it tries not to."

BRACHED · § 02 MEANING OF BRACH TRACKING METAPHOR
§ 02.3PRECISION · IDENTITY PURSUIT
10 / 36
The four virtues we inherit from the word

Precision over volume. Pursuit over reaction.

V / 01 PRECISION
Precision

We measure work by the accuracy of the match, not the volume of the alert. A hundred wrong flags is worse than zero.

V / 02 PURSUIT
Pursuit

We don't stop at onboarding. Every account is followed across its lifecycle — because the brach doesn't quit on a cold scent.

V / 03 PATIENCE
Patience

Real fraud reveals itself across weeks. Our infrastructure holds context the way a hound holds a scent — long after the moment.

V / 04 PROOF
Proof

Every conclusion comes with its trail — sources, timestamps, match logic. The brach returns to its handler with evidence in its mouth.

Anatomy

Two elements, one promise.

The lockup is composed of a square mark and a flush-baseline wordmark. Their relationship is fixed — never re-space, re-scale, or re-align them independently.

A
Mark — eight horizontal ridges; square envelope of side X.
B
Optical gap — exactly ⅓ X between mark and wordmark.
C
Wordmark — cap height equals ⅔ X; baselines align to mark base.
D
Clearspace — minimum ½ X on all sides; nothing may enter the envelope.

§ 03.3CONSTRUCTION GRID
14 / 36
How it is drawn

Built on a fingerprint baseline.

The mark is constructed inside a square of 12 units. Eight horizontal ridges sit on a 1.5-unit baseline grid, each curved against a shared inflection axis at x = 6u.

Outer envelope is a soft "B" silhouette — a flat left edge with a rounded right cap, hinting at the wordmark's first letter. The ridges grow toward the centre and taper at both ends.

A standfirst, set in Instrument Italic — used sparingly, where conviction matters more than information.

Body copy is set in Geist Regular at 16 px on a 24 px leading. Use it for every paragraph longer than a single sentence. Letterspacing is held at −0.003 em so a wall of text still feels considered.

Secondary copy moves to Slate; it carries asides, footnotes, and definitions without competing with primary text. Avoid running it longer than three lines — slate is a deliberate dimming, not a fade-out.

Inline emphasis uses italic Instrument or Geist Medium — never both at once. References to BRC-1284 identifiers, hashes, and timestamps drop to mono.

A quiet, exact voice — the way a forensic accountant speaks when the case is already won.

Four attributes
01
Precise
We say exactly what we mean. No softening, no inflation. Numbers and timestamps belong in our sentences.
02
Quiet
We don't shout. The product does the proving — language stays in the indicative voice, in shorter sentences than feel natural.
03
Investigative
We're curious about edges. We name what we found, where we found it, and what's still unknown — never paper over a gap.
04
Confident
We've been here before. We don't hedge with "may," "might," or "potentially" when our evidence is strong. We give a verdict.

Three principles
M / 01
Reveal, don't decorate.
Motion exists to surface a state change — never to attract. If a transition can be removed without losing information, remove it.
M / 02
Continuous, not bouncy.
No springs, no overshoot. Curves stay in the ease-out / ease-in-out family. The brach moves without theater.
M / 03
Trail, then arrive.
When something appears, give it a short ingress along its eventual path — so the user reads the trail, not the destination only.
